South America gears up for the Qatar football World Cup
Life is often structured around key events. Births, deaths, and multiple rites of passage mark the life of an individual. For those into politics or history, an election, a war, or a pandemic can all be milestones to understand an era. Socially, there are traditions like New Year or Christmas.
- But for many, life is that which happens in the four years between each football World Cup.
An atypical month. This is certainly the case in most of Latin America, where normal daily lives will, in large part, grind to a halt as soon as the first ball is kicked in Qatar on November 20. As the chart below shows, only Africa has more interest in the event than Latin America, and the difference falls within the margin of error.
