Brazil stands to lose from BRICS expansion
Nineteen countries have expressed interest in joining the BRICS, said Anil Sooklal, South Africa’s ambassador to the group, in April. South Africa will host the next BRICS summit in August.
- The numbers can’t be verified because there is no formal process of BRICS membership, but Mr. Sooklal said in February that Saudi Arabia and Iran had formally asked to join the alliance, which currently consists of Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa.
