Brazil’s Supreme Court puts Elon Musk under investigation
Brazilian Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes has decided to investigate billionaire Elon Musk for obstruction of justice, incitation of criminal activity, and the “willful criminal instrumentalization” of X, the social media platform previously known as Twitter. Justice Moraes oversees criminal probes into anti-democratic behavior on social media.
Context. The beef between one of the wealthiest men alive and the most controversial Brazilian Supreme Court justice started on April 3, after an American journalist posted a thread with the so-called “Twitter Files Brazil.”
- After buying Twitter late in 2022, Mr. Musk allowed investigative journalists to dig into the company’s internal communications from the pre-Musk era. The results were not as impressive as Mr. Musk would have hoped, but the Twitter Files saga has opened a Brazilian chapter.
