The federal government and Congress are discussing a new program to allow for taxes delayed by the Covid-19 pandemic to be paid in installment plans. However, both fear that announcing the measure too soon may serve as an incentive for business owners to stop paying taxes. The major concern is that companies may not have the money to pay these duties once economic activity has resumed.

After the Covid-19 pandemic began, several federal taxes levied on companies were delayed from April, May, and June to August, September, and October. Brazil’s Federal Revenue Service is against the move, saying that installment programs for paying tax encourage defaults.
