President Jair Bolsonaro issued a decree expanding the number of “essential services,” now including gyms, beauty parlors, and barbershops. These businesses will be allowed to open in Brazil, despite the quarantine. As a critic of social isolation, the president said these businesses are related to health and hygiene, and that “health is life.”

“The life issue has to be managed separately from the job issue. Without the economy, we don’t have life,” Mr. Bolsonaro said, mentioning that these sectors represent around one million jobs.
