São Paulo healthcare workers protest the deaths of 13 colleagues

At least 13 healthcare professionals have lost their lives to Covid-19 in the city of São Paulo, the epicenter of the country’s pandemic. In Brazil’s most populous city, at least 713 medical professionals have been infected by the coronavirus — with another 2,354 being placed on leave after presenting flu-like symptoms. Underreporting could also have affected healthcare workers. As reported by news portal G1, the families of professionals who have died of acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) are still waiting for their test results. As a response to the increasingly precarious situation, healthcare workers organized a protest in front of a São Paulo hospital today. They demanded better working conditions and paid homage to colleagues who lost their lives. “We want to live, we want protection,” some of the signs read.
