Brazil’s slow struggle for sewage coverage

New census data reveals sluggish progress in sewage coverage across the country, and Brazil is falling behind its 2033 sanitation goals

The proportion of Brazilian households with sewage collection increased to 62.5 percent in 2022, according to data released Friday by the federal statistics agency IBGE — a very slow advance that leaves Brazil behind its 2033 target for near-universal coverage.
