A test for Brazil at the UN Security Council
Today, Brazil will take over the rotating presidency of the UN Security Council. This gives it the prerogative to hold so-called “signature events,” offering an opportunity to showcase the country’s foreign policy interests and goals.
Back at it. This is Brazil’s second and final presidency during its current two-year term on the council, which ends on December 31.
- It previously presided over the council back in July 2022, under the Jair Bolsonaro administration — when it held signature events on “Children and Armed Conflict” and “Strategic Communication in Peacekeeping Operations.”
This time around … Brazil will hold just one signature event: on the role of regional, subregional, and other international organizations in conflict prevention and resolution.
