A social media platform for Bolsonaro
Gettr, a right-wing alternative to Twitter, has acted as a propaganda machine in favor of Jair Bolsonaro. The social media platform’s official account in Brazil has almost exclusively relayed posts that are positive about the government or that criticize former President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva — his main adversary for the October elections. Many posts are copied and pasted from Mr. Bolsonaro’s content on his own social media channels.
Why it matters. Social media platforms have begun to cooperate (a little, at least) with electoral courts to curb misinformation. Alternatives such as Gettr aim at giving the far-right an unmoderated platform for political use.
