Brazil’s baby bust was bad. It has gotten worse
Brazil’s birth rate declined for the fourth year in a row, to its lowest level since 1977. According to new census data, there were 2.54 million births in 2022, down 3.5 percent from the previous year. Compared to the 2010-2019 average, the drop is much steeper: 11.4 percent.
