Lula preserves lead with two weeks until Election Day
The outlook of the presidential race has not changed in at least four weeks, a new Datafolha poll shows. Former President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva continues to lead the race by a double-digit margin and still hopes that a late-stage push will get him above the 50-percent mark and allow him to clinch the race without the need for a runoff.
- President Bolsonaro, meanwhile, has not yet reaped the benefits of his increased spending on social policies and stimulus programs, nor for improving macroeconomic numbers. He has lost a point since last week.
- “Third-way” candidates remained stable, which will leave them frustrated but pleased with their resilience. Both election frontrunners are campaigning for Brazilians to engage in strategic voting, abandoning Ciro Gomes, Simone Tebet, and Soraya Thronicke to vote for either Lula or Mr. Bolsonaro...
