Labor judge sets a game-changing precedent for employers
A labor court in Três Corações, a town of 80,000 in the state of Minas Gerais, ruled that the death of an employee at a logistics company of Covid-19 constituted a workplace accident. The judge ordered the company to pay BRL 200,000 (USD 36,700) in compensation to his widow and daughter.
Why it matters. While the company can (and most certainly will) appeal, this could become a seminal case for labor regulations during the pandemic.
