Poll: Lawmakers support the use of electoral fund to combat Covid-19

electoral Elections 2020: with 12 months to go, campaigns heating up around Brazil

At least 51 percent of Brazil’s House of Deputies supports the redirecting of the 2020 municipal electoral fund to fight Covid-19, according to a poll conducted by O Estado de S.Paulo found. Of the 513 members of Congress, 264 indicated they would vote in favor of the change. This number, however, could be even higher, as 94 congresspeople did not respond to the poll. If a bill like this is approved, around BRL 2 billion (USD 358 million) could be redirected towards public health initiatives.
