VP: government stance is isolation and social distancing

VP Mourão government stance is isolation and social distancing

Despite President Jair Bolsonaro’s declarations on Tuesday night urging people to get back to work and criticizing states’ measures to impose isolation, Vice President Hamilton Mourão stated today that the federal government’s stance is unchanged: measures of isolation and social distancing will remain.

In an interview concerning the Brazilian Amazon Council, retired Army General Mourão was asked about his president’s statements, and explained that Mr. Bolsonaro “may not have expressed himself in the best way possible.”

Gen. Mourão suggested that the president was referring to future measures to combat the Covid-19 crisis, geared toward resuscitating the Brazilian economy.
