Health authorities in São Paulo announced plans to allow large public events — such as football matches, concerts, and nightclubs — as of November 1, by which time 90 percent of the state’s adult population is expected to be fully immunized against Covid-19.
However, economic development secretary Patrícia Ellen warned that clientele will still have to wear masks, prevent proof of vaccination, and maintain social distancing measures.
The state is carrying out a pilot project of “test events” to measure the contamination potential in such situations. After the Expo Retomada trade fair in Santos at the end of July, only two of the 1,264 guests tested positive and were prevented from joining the event. Now, the government is carrying out a round of tests to identify any infections, two weeks after the fair.
