The Brazilian Health Ministry issued a request to the National Supplementary Health Agency (ANS) to force private health plans to provide coverage for Covid-19 vaccines.

While Brazil’s private sector has yet to begin purchasing vaccines — unlike in Colombia and other Latin American countries — the ministry’s plan is for private health plans to cover vaccine expenses in the future, helping to improve the national immunization program. Currently, Brazil has over 48 million private health insurance customers.
