Yang Wanming, the Chinese ambassador to Brasília, took to Twitter to comment on the recent announcement that the U.S. government will donate roughly 6 million vaccine doses to Latin America via the UN-backed COVAX facility. In a pointed tweet, he said “it was better than nothing.”

In an additional comment, Mr. Yang said people “always do their best based on their desire and capability.”

The Chinese-made CoronaVac has accounted for almost 60 percent of jabs administered in Brazil so far (or 38.9 million doses), according to official data. But this has not been enough to stop the Brazilian government from lashing out at Beijing. One month ago, President Jair Bolsonaro suggested that the coronavirus was a Chinese weapon of biological warfare, created in a laboratory.
