Health officials in the southern Brazilian city of Tubarão reported that a baby born in April came out of the womb carrying Covid-19 antibodies.

The infant’s mother works at a local health center and received two doses of the CoronaVac vaccine during her pregnancy. After giving birth, tests showed the presence of coronavirus antibodies in the newborn, later analyzed by several experts.

While local health authorities said “there are no established protocols” to investigate these phenomena, studies around the world are showing that mothers can pass on Covid-19 antibodies during pregnancy.
