Chilean health regulator Instituto de Salud Pública (ISP) gave its approval for the emergency use of the one-dose vaccine manufactured by Chinese firm CanSino Biologics — one week after the government inked a deal to purchase 1.8 million doses. CanSino is the fourth immunizer cleared for use in Chile.

However, regulators added that further studies are necessary to understand whether one shot is indeed enough to protect citizens.

The AD5-nCOV vaccine will only be distributed to citizens aged 18 to 60, as it has yet to be tested on older patients.
