President Jair Bolsonaro still hasn’t sanctioned a bill that provides BRL 60 billion to state governments because, according to the president, the proposal includes a rule that suspends new civil-service examinations. He told a group of federal police officers that they need to talk with Justice Minister André Mendonça and the General Secretary Minister Jorge de Oliveira about new hires.

“You have to go in a group of three or four people to talk to Minister Jorge [de Oliveira] and then talk to the Justice Minister. It has to be this morning. You have to speak with the two ministers today. If there is a way to solve it, we do it,” said Mr. Bolsonaro. This Thursday, the president had a video meeting with state governors, the House Speaker Rodrigo Maia, and Senate President Davi Alcolumbre. He told those present at the meeting that he will veto increases to public servant salaries.
