São Paulo’s government will expand the sewage network in the state capital using public money and Sabesp, a government-controlled sanitation company. Both the state administration and Sabesp will invest BRL 300 million in the project, intended to help the fight against Covid-19.

Organization INCT-ETEs Sustentáveis says that monitoring sewage for the presence of the coronavirus might be an effective way to detect Covid-19, especially among asymptomatic patients.

Sabesp’s shares have been in decline since the opening of the market this morning, falling 1.62 percent and influenced by global risk aversion and poor economic results.
