A survey by renowned pollster Datafolha shows that 64 percent of Brazilians disapprove of the firing of former Health Minister Luiz Henrique Mandetta on Thursday. Sacked after disagreeing with President Jair Bolsonaro on the need for social isolation, Mr. Mandetta was replaced by oncologist and consultant Nelson Teich, who spoke in favor of an approach similar to that of his predecessor upon taking office.

At the beginning of April, Mr. Mandetta’s approval level as Brazil’s Health Minister reached 76 percent, much higher than the president’s own 33 percent. But despite Brazilians overwhelmingly disagreeing with his decision to fire Mr. Mandetta, President Bolsonaro’s approval rating actually went up over the past month, to 36 percent.
