- Bolsonaro 1. First newspaper Folha, then magazine Veja published details of Jair Bolsonaro’s 2011 custody battle with his ex-wife, who accused him at the time of threatening to kill her and of concealing part of his assets from Brazil’s internal revenue service. She now denies those statements – which Mr. Bolsonaro downplayed as “typical blows during a divorce battle.”Â
- Bolsonaro 2. During an interview with TV station Band, the far-right candidate said he wouldn’t accept any electoral result apart from his victory.
His statements come after his running mate made controversial remarks about curbing labor rights and salaries. This week, Mr. Bolsonaro ordered that his VP nominee should be excluded from all campaign events until election day.
- Oil. The federal government raised BRL 6.8bn in the latest auction of pre-salt deepwater oil reserves. All blocks had bidders, and the National Petroleum Agency forecasts over BRL 1bn in investments. The winning consortiua involved Shell, Chevron, ExxonMobil, QPI, BP Energy, CNOOC, and Ecopetrol. Petrobras will explore only one of the four auctioned blocks. ...
