Supreme Court poised to change the internet
The Brazilian Supreme Court will begin trials on Wednesday that could significantly alter key tenets of online speech. The court will consider cases calling for social media platforms to be held accountable for content posted by users.
- One issue the justices will consider is what to do about Article 19 of Brazil’s legal framework for the internet. Similar to the U.S.’s Section 230, it grants platforms immunity for third-party content and says companies can only be forced to take down a post after a court order.
