What Brazil will bring to COP28
Brazil will arrive at the upcoming United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP) in Dubai with its “head held high,” Environment Minister Marina Silva said during a meeting with the foreign press on Monday.
Results. Brazil wants to “lead by example,” Ms. Silva added, and will showcase the reduction in Amazon deforestation and the correction of its Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) under the Paris Agreement.
- “We’ve managed to reduce deforestation by about 50 percent, but we want to break that record next year. And the year after that,” Ms. Silva promised.
Diplomacy. During a separate press briefing at the Foreign Affairs Ministry, Deputy Foreign Minister for Climate, Energy, and the Environment André Corrêa do Lago said Brazil will arrive in Dubai “with a very comfortable internal situation.”
