Speaker flies to meet with Xi
Brazilian House Speaker Arthur Lira met Chinese leader Xi Jinping in Beijing on Friday, as the Asian giant holds the Belt and Road Forum â centered on Chinaâs signature foreign policy initiative, which aims to expand Beijingâs influence abroad with infrastructure projects.
What they are saying. Mr. Lira said cooperation with China has jolted Brazilâs economic and social development and increased its employment and production capacity.
- Mr. Xi said the Belt and Road Initiative, which was launched ten years ago, is highly compatible with Brazilâs reindustrialization and the recently re-launched Growth Acceleration Program (an initiative by President Luiz InĂĄcio Lula da Silva to foster growth through billionaire public works).
