The risks of climate change for Brazil
The Earth’s temperature is on track to rise by 2.7 degrees Celsius above pre-industrial levels by the end of this century, even with increased commitments to tackle climate change. If this scale of global warming does occur, Brazil will be the country in the world with the largest land area exposed to what scientists call “unprecedented heat.”
Inhospitable. A recent study led by researchers at the Global Systems Institute, University of Exeter, and Nanjing University, suggests that significant parts of Brazil’s North, Northeast, and Center-West regions would experience mean annual temperatures of above 29oC (84.2oF), hotter than anywhere else on the planet today.
