Lula’s “neo-industrialization” push
The government will today announce measures to make new cars more affordable for consumers. It is part of a broader push to reindustrialize Brazil.
What they are saying. President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and Vice President Geraldo Alckmin, who also serves as Brazil’s trade and industry minister, co-authored an op-ed warning of the risks of the country’s dependence on commodities — which exposes the economy to international price cycles.
- “A knowledge-based economy depends on the recovery of our industrial sector, which also benefits our sovereignty in sectors such as health, communications, defense, and energy. But we are losing the race for productive sophistication,” the president and his VP wrote.
