More pro-Bolsonaro coup allegations emerge
Senator Marcos do Val on Thursday said that he was recruited by President Jair Bolsonaro — to whom he was allied — to help stage a coup d’état. His allegations were further detailed in a story by weekly magazine Veja, to which Mr. do Val gave an interview.
The plot. The senator says he was summoned to a meeting with Mr. Bolsonaro and Daniel Silveira, a former congressman who was arrested on Thursday on unrelated charges. In the meeting, the two hosts suggested that Mr. do Val wear a wire and approach Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes — who also serves as Brazil’s chief electoral judge.
