Brazil’s OECD entry put on ice?
The new Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva administration has been coy about where it stands in regard to Brazil’s negotiations to join the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD).
- The government created a new organogram for the chief of staff’s office, removing the group in charge of coordinating Brazil’s entry to the OECD, also known as a club of rich countries.
Let me in. Joining the OECD has been a Brazilian goal since the country formally made such a request in 2017, during the Michel Temer administration. Membership negotiations were kicked off a year ago — and in June 2022 the organization adopted an accession roadmap for Brazil, Bulgaria, Croatia, Romania, and Peru.
