Women’s World Cup 2023: Sit down and learn, boys!

It is no coincidence that Brazil is known as the land of football and have a strong World Cup heritage. Some of the sport’s biggest and best athletes are Brazilian, and millions cheer on their favorite teams at every game in the country.

And that excitement only grows when it comes to the national team. Brazil’s current squad includes the national team’s all-time top scorer, with 119 goals. Of those, 17 have come in World Cups, making this player the top scorer in the competition’s history and a six-time world player of the year.

If you haven’t figured out which player we’re talking about yet, here’s a hint: stop thinking about the men’s team. The 37-year-old Marta, the player who holds the aforementioned records, is playing in her sixth and final World Cup — and is hoping to win her first trophy with the national side.

Moreover, while the men’s team is fresh off a disappointing exit from the 2022 tournament, the women’s team recently showed the skills that preceded the country’s fame in the sport.

In the first game of the 2023 Women’s World Cup, Brazil defeated Panama 4-0, with 23-year-old Ary Borges stealing the headlines by scoring a hat trick and assisting a fourth goal in her World Cup debut.

Throughout the match, the team put on an impressive display and showed signs that the first women’s title could finally be within their grasp. Perhaps when this edition of the World Cup is over, the women can find some time in their schedules to teach the men’s side how to do it.
