More and more illegal cell phones arrive in Brazil

The number of irregular cell phones and smartphones, smuggled or imported without the authorization of the Brazilian telecommunications agency Anatel, is growing.

By the numbers. At the end of last year, monitoring by the association of electronics manufacturers Abinee and the consulting firm IDC indicated that the entry of these devices in the country reached 19 percent of the market in 2023, which means 6.1 million irregular smartphones sold throughout the year, compared to 3.7 million the previous year.
