Infectious diseases expert David Uip has stepped down as head of the São Paulo Covid-19 Committee. He has experienced “heart problems requiring treatment,” attributing it to work overload. Dimas Covas, director of the Butantan Institute — a biologic research center — takes over his duties.
In March, he tested positive for Covid-19 and took a month off from work — it remains unknown whether his new health issues are related to the coronavirus. “I am saddened that, in this difficult time of crisis of severe pandemic, which has caused so many deaths in our state, I’m not able to be physically present,” said Mr. Uip in a statement to Governor João Doria.
