Argentinian Health Minister Gines García announced that four travelers tested positive for two new coronavirus variants believed to have originated in Brazil.
Two of the four patients tested positive for the variant currently raging in Brazil’s Amazon region, while the others had what Mr. Garcia named the “Rio de Janeiro variant.” On Twitter, the minister said the cases highlight the need for “implementing active genomic epidemiological surveillance to monitor the entrance of these variants in our country.”
The SARS-CoV-2 mutations from Brazil have been spreading across the continent, with cases reported in Peru and Colombia so far. Several countries have banned flights arriving from Brazil.
