Lower house approves insurance cover to healthcare workers

Brazil’s lower house approved a bill providing a BRL 50,000 insurance package to healthcare workers and their dependents in the case of their permanent incapacitation or death. An additional annual value will be paid out to workers with dependents under the age of 21 up until their 21st birthday.

As of May 20, 137 Brazilian nurses had been killed by the coronavirus — more than in any other country — out of 15,000 infections. Yes, over 15,000 of Brazil’s 300,000 total cases are nurses. These astounding figures are only in part due to their constant exposure to the virus, nurses frequently lack protective equipment. However, it is worth noting that healthcare workers are tested more often than the general population.
