Congress approves BRL 343-billion in extra federal spending

The federal government has been authorized to spend BRL 343.6 billion over the fiscal limits approved for this year by Congress. Of this total, BRL 213.7 billion will be spent on social welfare. On Thursday, lawmakers voted on a bill that conditioned this extra spending to the issuance of public bonds.

In a joint voting session, members of Congress also approved the reallocation of BRL 308 million intended for building 10,000 houses to the Oswaldo Cruz Foundation (Fiocruz) research organization.
