Around 88 percent of construction works in Brazil remain active, despite the Covid-19 pandemic. The sector has long been considered an “essential service.” According to the São Paulo Housing Union, only 34 of 404 ongoing works in the country are currently on hold. Meaning that over 57,000 workers remain active. It is estimated that the construction sector is responsible for more than 2 million formal jobs in the country — and around 4 million informal ones.
