Health Ministry: five states could have “uncontrolled spread” of Covid-19

The Health Ministry believes that five Brazilian states might be close to the level of “uncontrolled spread” of Covid-19 — the highest level in the government’s scale. The federal capital, Brasilia, has the country’s highest infection rate: 13.2 cases for every 100,000 people. São Paulo follows in second (9.7). Ceará has 6.8 and both Rio de Janeiro and Amazonas have 6.2. They are all above the national average of 4.3 cases per 100,000 Brazilians. The report recognizes that states and municipalities that implement social distancing measures have presented better results since then.
