Flamengo head coach Jorge Jesus has announced that he has tested positive for the novel coronavirus. The 65-year-old received his test results today and will now go into quarantine. In a recorded message shared on social media, Jorge Jesus says he is showing no symptoms.
The Copa Libertadores-winning Portuguese coach decided to take the test after being in contact with Flamengo director Mauricio Gomes de Mattos, who traveled with the team to Barranquilla, Colombia two weeks ago and has since tested positive.
The club has stated that the rest of the delegation—including the first-team squad—were also tested, and the results came back negative.
UPDATE: According to Flamengo, a second test has come back “inconclusive,” and Mr. Jesus will undergo a third one on Tuesday.
