Over two-thirds of Brazil’s federal universities to demand vaccine passports

According to a new survey carried out by news website G1, at least 49 of Brazil’s 69 federal universities already require Covid-19 vaccine passports to allow entry to their premises, or are planning to introduce these measures in the near future.

The research found that 10 educational institutions decided not to request proof of vaccination, while another nine have yet to issue rules on the matter. Only the Federal University of Triângulo Mineiro (UFTM), in Minas Gerais state, did not answer the survey.

In December, the Brazilian Education Ministry established that federal educational institutions could not demand vaccine passports from students and faculty, but this was overturned by a Supreme Court decision which underlined universities’ autonomy to decide on the matter.
