Germany allows entry to some (not all) vaccinated Brazilians

German authorities improved Brazil’s status in their assessment of international risk areas, from an “area of variants of concern” to a “high risk” country. In practical terms, that means vaccinated Brazilians are allowed to enter Germany once more.

However, only those vaccinated with immunizers approved by Germany’s Paul Ehrlich Institute will be allowed entry. That excludes those who received the Chinese-made CoronaVac — rolled out to 35 percent of Brazilians immunized with at least one dose.

“An expansion covering other vaccines with a comparable standard of protection is planned as soon as the necessary tests are completed,” the German government said, in a statement. Other countries that already accept Brazilians — such as France and Canada — have not yet approved the Chinese immunizer.

Those who received vaccines from AstraZeneca, Pfizer, or Janssen will not need to quarantine upon arrival in Germany or present negative PCR tests.
