Brazil received a batch of 2.05 million Johnson & Johnson coronavirus vaccines this morning, as part of a 3-million-dose donation made by the White House.
The immunizer will be the first single-dose vaccine to be incorporated into the country’s inoculation program. Health Minister Marcelo Queiroga received the vaccines at Viracopos Airport in Campinas, accompanied by U.S. Ambassador Todd Chapman.
An additional batch of 942,000 doses should arrive on Saturday.
Health regulator Anvisa granted the emergency use approval to the single-dose vaccine on March 31. The Health Ministry has signed a contract with the pharmaceutical company for 38 million vaccines, to be delivered by year-end. Forty-four countries have authorized the vaccine for use, and it is part of the World Health Organization’s list of seven approved immunizers.
