São Paulo recently launched its Municipal Policy on Open Data and Active Transparency, a piece of legislation that addresses the use of blockchain technology by the government.

Why it matters. Currently, the data available on transparency portals (not just municipal ones) is not always clear, consistent, or easily accessible — which hinders transparency. With blockchain technology, however, public information could become immutable, easily verifiable, and decentrally validated.
