The Brazilian Report takes home two prizes from 2021 EPPY Awards

We are proud to announce that The Brazilian Report won two prizes at the 2021 EPPY Awards, for best news or event feature video and best homepage design with under 1 million unique visitors!

The EPPY Awards are held yearly, presented by Editor & Publisher magazine with the goal of celebrating media-affiliated websites that do “outstanding jobs in creating online services.”

The Brazilian Report won first place for our video coverage on the Braskem scandal in Maceió, where entire neighborhoods of the northeastern Brazilian city are literally sinking due to abusive salt-mining practices by Latin America’s largest petrochemical firm. You can watch the award-winning video here. Other finalists included Bloomberg Industry Group, ReligionUnplugged.com, and Newsreel Asia.

The judges noted that “the scope of the salt well digging investigation is massive. The Brazilian Report broke the story and created a well-reported video with visuals and interviews that showed readers the magnitude of the problem and the aftermath.”

In the best homepage design category, EPPY judges said The Brazilian Report is “easy to navigate while packed with content,” commending us on our use of organic SEO and value-added features.

We were also a finalist in the best editorial/political cartoon category, with Dennis Draughon from Capitol Broadcasting Company winning first place. Congrats!

This has already been a remarkable year for The Brazilian Report: not only have we celebrated our fourth birthday, but our work has been featured during the Brazilian Senate’s groundbreaking Covid inquiry and now we have taken our 2021 award tally up to three!
