Gol, the leading domestic airline in Brazil, will change its flights scheduled for April. The carrier sent an email to clients on Friday explaining that all bookings for the period between April 1 and 30 will have to be remade.
“The coronavirus has forced humankind to rethink its processes […] That’s why we decided to readapt our network once again,” the company told customers.
Gol also said that it could promote changes to its flights for March 15-31.
To aviation news website PanRotas, Gol’s sales director Renzo Mello said it does not mean that flights will be canceled, “but any change in flight departure times creates a whole new flight.”
In February, Gol recorded an occupancy rate of 80 percent, according to a securities filing.
With the surge of new coronavirus variants, Brazilian states are inching closer to a health collapse — with 15 of 27 state capitals with ICU occupancy rates above 90 percent.
On March 12, Brazil registered 2,216 coronavirus-related deaths — surpassing the 2,000 mark for the third consecutive day. The country’s seven-day rolling average of daily casualties has remained above 1,000 for 51 straight days.
Correction (March 13, 3:13 pm): A previous version of this post wrongly said that Gol was canceling its April flights. This mistake has been corrected.
