Environment Minister tests positive for Covid-19

Ricardo Salles, Brazil’s embattled Environment Minister, was diagnosed with Covid-19 on February 16. According to his press services, he has a “mild fever but feels well” and will remain isolated in Brasília.

Besides Mr. Salles, President Jair Bolsonaro and another 12 current members of the cabinet caught the coronavirus:

  • Infrastructure: Tarcísio de Freitas
  • Justice: André Mendonça
  • Health: Eduardo Pazuello
  • Secretary of Government: Luiz Eduardo Ramos
  • Institutional Security: Augusto Heleno
  • Mines and Energy: Bento Albuquerque
  • Education: Milton Ribeiro
  • Secretary General: Onyx Lorenzoni
  • Science and Technology: Marcos Pontes
  • Comptroller General: Wagner Rosário
  • Chief of Staff: Walter Braga Netto
  • Communications: Fábio Faria

Moreover, former Secretary General Jorge Oliveira — currently a member of the Federal Accounts Court — and former Tourism Minister Marcelo Álvaro Antonio also tested positive for the coronavirus.
