Brazilian courts will return to in-person activities on June 18, according to an ordinance signed by Supreme Court Chief Justice Dias Toffoli. In the first phase of the plan to bring the justice system back to normal, jury trials will be resumed — which in Brazil are only used for murder cases — as well as urgent hearings. Courts that want to reopen will require authorization from municipal and state authorities. They also must ensure social distancing on their premises, enforcing the use of protective masks and supplying hand sanitizer.
