According to a statement from the Brazilian Supreme Court Press Service, Chief Justice Dias Toffoli has tested negative for Covid-19. He has been in the hospital since Saturday, when he underwent a procedure to drain an abscess and later showed flu symptoms “consistent with a coronavirus infection.”

Over the weekend, the chief justice promised to make his test results public — mentioning the principle of transparency. His words were taken as an indirect jab at President Jair Bolsonaro, who hid his own test results for two months, even if all three tests had come back negative.

Despite his results coming back negative, Chief Justice Dias Toffoli will still take a leave of absence, during which time the court will be presided by fellow Justice Luiz Fux.
