Brazil is far from a Covid-19 infection peak, says WHO

Brazil is still some way away from its Covid-19 infection peak, according to the World Health Organization (WHO). The alert comes as many cities in the country are moving to reopen their local economies. The Brazilian Report showed that the Covid-19 pandemic is spreading across the entirety of the country, reaching regions with precarious health infrastructure that are unable to treat severe cases.

The WHO also showed concern about the situation of other Latin American countries, namely Peru, Chile, Mexico, and Haiti. The latter is the biggest source of worry due to its “weak healthcare system,” in the words of WHO Emergency Director Michael Ryan.
