Covid-19 crisis could lead to EU banning Brazilian travel

While Covid-19 numbers continue to rise in Brazil, the European Union (EU) is already mulling over gradually reopening its borders. The bloc, however, should prioritize countries that present “a positively evolving and sufficiently similar epidemiological situation.”

With an infection rate of two — that is, every person with Covid-19 is expected to infect, on average, two other people — Brazil might be kept out of the EU reopening list. According to the Imperial College London, the country presents the highest contagion rate in the world, which is twice what the EU considers to be acceptable. The college also predicts Brazil’s Covid-19 cases could double this week, further jeopardizing the country’s image abroad.
